Crowns and Veneers
At Peppermint Dental Centre we offer treatment options for crowns and veneers.
Crowns
Crowns, also referred to as caps, are indicated when a lot of tooth substance has been lost for example where a tooth has a large filling or has been root filled. They are made by preparing the tooth to a peg shape, taking a mould of the tooth and the laboratory technician constructing a tooth shaped ‘shell’ to fit over the prepared tooth – restoring it’s form and appearance.
Sometimes if a great deal of tooth substance is lost a post crown is used. This is a tooth replica, which is held in place by a post or peg in the root of a root filled tooth. Crowns can also be used for purely cosmetic reasons. To disguise discoloured teeth or make teeth appear straighter.
Veneers
Veneers are very thin porcelain coverings that sit on the front surface of a tooth often for cosmetic reasons. They can disguise discolouration or chipped teeth and require very little preparation to the underlying tooth structure.
